Joy To The World: A Christmas Musical Journey takes audiences through Damien Sneed’s original arrangements of gospel, jazz and classical favorites. The performance features a cast of 10 singers and musicians delivering such holiday classics as “Silent Night,” “This Christmas,” “The Christmas Song,” “Joy To The World,” plus excerpts from Handel’s Messiah and more in a not-to-be-missed, uplifting and joyous night to start off the holiday season!
Multi-talented pianist, organist, conductor, composer, producer, arranger, and arts educator, Damien Sneed’s work spans multiple genres. He has worked with a range of jazz, classical, pop, and R&B legends including the late Aretha Franklin, Wynton Marsalis, Jessye Norman, Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, and Lawrence Brownlee. He has also served as music director for numerous Grammy Award-winning gospel artists such as The Clark Sisters, Richard Smallwood, Donnie McClurkin, and Hezekiah Walker. Sneed is a recipient of the prestigious Sphinx Medal of Excellence, which is presented annually to emerging Black and Latino leaders in classical music.
Sneed is the founder and artistic director of Chorale Le Chateau, which has gained a global reputation for its vivid interpretations of vocal literature, from Renaissance period pieces to art songs to jazz, spirituals, gospel, and avant-garde contemporary music. During the 2018-2019 season, he served on the staff of the Houston Grand Opera (HGO) as Music Director and Composer in Residence and was recently commissioned by HGO to compose a new chamber opera, MARIAN’S SONG, about the life of Marian Anderson.
