With a style that is a mix of Hawaiian, pop, rock, Latin and a little bit of jazz, Andrew Molina is forging his own musical path on the islands. A third-generation member of Maui’s musical Molina family, Andrew never saw himself following in his father and grandfather’s footsteps until he picked up the ukulele at the age of 13. At a concert, he was inspired by the remarkable talents of Jake Shimabukuro, and never looked back. Jake has since become a mentor and friend, and Andrew was honored to be named to Ukulele Magazine’s “The Next Jake” list in 2015.
As Andrew’s passion for the ukulele grew, he built on his technique and songwriting abilities. He composed eight of the 11 songs on his debut CD, “The Beginning,” which was named a finalist for the “Ukulele Album of the Year” category at the 2014 Na Hoku Hanohano Awards. His second CD, “A New Journey” was filled with more original songs and featured such special guests as Jake Shimabukuro, Kalei Gamiao and Craig Chee on cello. In addition to his many live performances, Andrew’s songs have been heard in films and promotional videos, allowing him to share his music, rooted in his island heritage, with audiences everywhere.
