Swing Revival Band Cherry Poppin’ Daddies
Brings Their “Zoot Suit Riot” 20th Anniversary Tour to the Bankhead
Known for their swing revival hit “Zoot Suit Riot,” the Cherry Poppin’ Daddies will be at the Bankhead Theater for one show only on April 21, 2017. For more than 25 years, the Daddies have made it their mission to veer from genre to genre across the musical map, defiantly following their own muse. While keeping an eye on the time-honored traditions of authentic swing, their individuality and reputation for bending boundaries has had The Washington Post calling them “a group that has never seemed to grow out of its bawdy lyrics and rambunctious style.” The seven-piece band, with prominent horn section, puts their own unique swank style and sassy delivery into every note they play.
Over the years, they have released eight studio albums including “Please Return the Evening: The Cherry Poppin’ Daddies Salute the Music of the Rat Pack,” which tapped into the familiar music and outsize personalities of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr., and their most recent album, “The Boop-A-Doo.” Their Zoot Suit Riot 20th Anniversary Tour celebrates the re-release of their best-selling compilation album which featured such popular tunes as “The Ding-Dong Daddy of the D-Car Line,” “Brown Derby Jump,” and “Here Comes the Snake.”
The lively evening with the Cherry Poppin’ Daddies at the Bankhead Theater will begin at 8:00 p.m. on April 21st. Before the show and during intermission a featured drink special, the “Cherry Swing Fling,” will be available for purchase in the lobby.
